Dining at La Ferme

As the new kid on the block, nestled away in a shopping center in Boca Raton, you will discover the fabulous La Ferme, the newest shining star from well-known Manhattan restaurateurs Laura, Bobby and Alexandra Shapiro. Offering modern, locally sourced food, with an emphasis on quality and flavors of the Mediterranean in an elegantly comfortable setting. The spectacular cuisine will showcase both classic comfort favorites as well as modern interpretations of a bistro menu.  With a long history in the food industry, the Shapiro’s currently own and operate two Manhattan locations of Flex Mussels, and in the past have owned Vanessa, Texarkana, La Louisiana, Hoexters, Uzie’s, and Gianni’s in Southstreet Seaport, New York and Baltimore, Maryland.  In Prince Edward Island, Canada they owned and operated Dayboat and the original Flex Mussels. Additionally, on a sweet note, Bobby was David Liederman’s partner in David’s Cookies.

Warm lighting and intimate décor welcome you as if you as if you are dining with the Shapiro’s in their home. Magnificent artwork graces the walls showcasing works by Shepard Fairey, Hunt Slonem, Donald Sultan, Alex Katz, Mel Ramos, Robert Cottingham and Brett Murray.

Focusing on boutique vineyards, beers from local and international micro-breweries, and a craft cocktail list, La Ferme has something for everyone. With so many mouthwatering sections, we began out culinary journey with an array of appetizers of the fresh selection of the day’s Oysters On The Half Shell, tender Grilled Octopus, served with gigande beans and charred tomato vinaigrette, luscious Baked Oysters 2 Ways – casino with neuske bacon, and rockefeller as well as the classic Escargot La Ferme with mushrooms, persillade, garlic, herb butter. Delicate Gougeres, baked, savory, Gruyere puffs with béchamel, melted in our mouths. Ruby Red Beet Cured Gravlax with capers, toast points drizzled with dill and mustard aioli burst with flavor.

Rich and flavorful Onion Soup with braised onions is topped with gruyere crostini while the delicate Maine Lobster Consommé combines lobster, enoki and truffle oil.

Wonderful salad selections feature Beet and Goat Cheese with roasted, walnuts, tossed in white balsamic, a delicious Farm Salad with vegetables, gruyere in lemon champagne vinaigrette as well as Frisee Salad, blending delicate frisee, lardons, poached egg and dressed with mustard vinaigrette.

Mussels, a house specialty are served with fresh frites, in a variety of amazing sauces including Thai with curry, coconut milk, cilantro, lime and lemongrass, Marinieres with white wine, butter and herbs, and Provencal with tomato and herbs and Parma with parmesan cream and meyer lemon. Simply the best!

Succulent Pan Seared Dayboat Scallops are served with fennel pollen dust, parsnip puree in golden raisin vinaigrette, Oven Roasted Boneless Branzino with olio verde, lemon vinaigrette and braised greens is second to none while the Hangar Steak au poivre with maître d’ hotel butter or bordelaise is grilled to perfection. For a special treat, don’t miss the Traditional Toulouse Cassoulet of duck confit, garlic sausage, smoked ham and white beans or the Crescent Log Island Duck Two Ways featuring roasted breast, confit leg, bacon, lentils and carrot puree. Lamb Loin Wellington in puff pastry with duxelle, spinach and truffled lamb jus is sensational while the Short Rib Bourguignon is delicately braised with lardons, mushrooms and served with pommes puree.

Side dishes, large enough to share, include bubbly Mac & Cheese blended with Gruyere, Parmesan and cheddar (the best we’ve ever eaten), crispy Brussel Sprouts roasted with bacon lardon as well as perfect Truffle Fries.

Along with cappuccino, our sweet ending of decadent Old Fashioned Chocolate Fudge Cake with malted milk anglaise and milk chocolate bark, irresistible Brown Butter Apple Tart topped with oatmeal crisp, caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream and creamy Lavender Crème Brulee with pistachio shortbread cookies and fresh berries was pure perfection.
